In the Footsteps of Tusk

S.W.A.P | Safaris With A Purpose

Since inception in 1990, Tusks reputation for identifying and supporting an impressive and wide range of conservation initiatives with an incredibly successful track record throughout Africa, is well known and respected.

The foundations of Tusk were laid when Charlie Mayhew, Founder of Tusk, led a 7-month expedition across the Sahara, through the Congo, into Eastern and finally Southern Africa, concluding in Cape Town. Throughout the expedition the group undertook a series of conservation and community projects, filmed for a Channel 4 documentary. This, in essence, sparked the beginning of Tusk.

With coordinates 1°N,7°E, São Tomé and Príncipe is located at the centre of the world. Created by volcanic activity millions of years ago, these striking islands rise out of the Gulf of Guinea and the vibrant rainforests are amongst the most biodiverse on the planet. Remnants of it’s gripping past remain on the island with historic roças and cacao plantations which are, through eco tourism, being resurrected.
