July 2020: Botswana with Alexander McCall Smith
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE JOURNEY
Meet the Author
A once-in-a-lifetime chance to travel with a best-selling author. Three full days in the company of Alexander McCall Smith in the very country that inspired the much-loved character of his novels, Precious Ramotswe – head of Botswana’s No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.
Duma Tau camp is built under a shady grove of mangosteen trees, overlooking a large hippo-filled lagoon within the Linyanti waterway system. Its ten large, luxuriously appointed tented rooms are raised off the ground on polished wooden decks. They are set beneath cool thatched roofing with canvas walls, allowing guests to enjoy the night sounds of Africa in security and comfort. The bathroom facilities are en-suite, and each room also features an outside shower, perfect for showering under the stars at the end of an adventurous day.
The Linyanti Reserve, on which Duma Tau is located, is an enormous private concession, comprising nearly 300,000 acres of prime wilderness area in the far north-east of Botswana. It is bordered to the north by the Linyanti River, and to the east by the Chobe National Park, and contains two thirds of the length of the mysterious Savuti Channel.
