Nestled in the Southern Peruvian Andes, Puqio is a tented camp that reflects the simplicity and rawness of the surrounding Colca Valley.
Four adobe Pirca roundhouse rooms and four luxury tented suites with canvas armoires and leather straps have been thoughtfully and beautifully curated for a comfortable stay amidst the high desert Andean landscape. All rooms are equipped with wood burning stoves, in wall heating, stand-alone deep bathtub, indoor and outdoor showers, flashlights, speakers, wifi and two camping wardrobes.
Meals are cooked in clay ovens or on open flames, delivering traditional Andean menus using ingredients typical to the area such as sancayo (a cactus fruit) enjoyed al fresco or in the dining room.
Jagged canyon ledges, soaring condors, sweeping grasslands and a fast flowing river make up the stark, remote Colca Valley. Farmers still use the pre-Inca terraces and the environment invites you to slow down and experience life at the pace of nature. Within this breathtakingly beautiful landscape, there is much to explore. Led by multilingual, local guides, you can enjoy high altitude trekking, visits to nearby communities and their markets, archaeological tours, visits to the Uyo Uyo thermal baths and Andean textile weavers. Excursions with expert photographers, birders and astronomers bring the valley to life and for the more adrenaline seeking guests, mountain biking, horse riding and Andean lake fishing are all available.
