Pelorus Private Island
400 hectares of pristine wilderness and superb fringing reefs within the 'Great Palm' archipelago of the Great Barrier Reef. With just one simple, natural and effortlessly luxurious beach house, Pelorus Private Island is a unique offering of seclusion and refinement in equal measures.
Accessible by scenic helicopter flight over the reef filled aquamarine waters or private yacht charter from Northern Queensland, Pelorus Island is a hidden tropical paradise.
Away from every day distractions, Pelorus epitomises barefoot, contemporary coastal luxury. The five bedroom private residence has been sensitively designed in keeping with the islands white coral sands and lush vegetation. Enormous floor to ceiling glass walls welcomes vast amounts of light into the houses wide open spaces. Soft, natural wooden interiors, clean lines and a soft colour palate have created cleverly designed tranquil spaces throughout.
Four air conditioned en-suite bedrooms have breath-taking views over the ocean and enjoy their own large balcony. Bathroom amenities are native to Australia and a yoga mat is provided in each suite – best practiced as the sun rises over the island before a swim in the ocean or solar heated pool. An additional fifth suite is arranged as a twin and perfectly suited for younger family members, nannies or household members travelling with guests.
Using locally sourced seafood and farm produce, the Pelorus world class resident chef works closely with guests before arrival. Everyone’s favourite cuisines, dining themes and occasions are taken into consideration before being brought to life. From tasting menus in the open kitchen to picnics on one of the many sandy coves, your imagination is the only limit to your dining experience at Pelorus.
With snorkelling right off the sandy beach, the house reef is teeming with wildlife from turtles and reef fish to the occasional migrating humpback whale pod. The Palm Island archipelago is filled with wonderful snorkelling opportunities including the Museum of Underwater Art (where art installations have been placed on the sea floor alongside the coral). A fleet of jet ski’s, kayaks and paddleboards are available to explore the islands pristine coastline and sandy coves. The islands activity team can arrange and host boating adventures to the outer reefs, to go fishing or visit Orpheus Research Station.
Minimising environment impact, the residence operates on self-sustaining solar power.
