Chongwe River Camp
Chongwe offers a unique and unforgettable experience, a real home away from home - a place where you can unwind and switch off from the rest of the world.
Occupying a beautiful riverside position just outside the gorgeous Lower Zambezi National Park, Chongwe River Camp is a modest owner-operated and relatively well-priced camp. Chongwe offers an authentic safari experience with great hosting and very good quality safari guiding. An unusually wide range of activities includes vehicle safaris, night vehicle safaris, walking safaris, motorboat safaris and canoe safaris. Highlights should include some intense lion and elephant action.
A variety of accommodation options are offer including tented suites and the exclusive Chongwe River House. Nine standard tents enjoy the incredible views with their own private verandahs overlooking the river, making them an idyllic place for relaxation and contemplation of Africa’s wonderful wilderness.
The Albida suite is a luxurious self-contained colonial-style tented suite which sleeps four so is perfect for families or friends travelling together. The Cassia Suite is a private, luxury tented suite for two on the banks of the Zambezi, perfect for honeymooners or romantic couples. Both the Cassia and Albida Suites have their own butler and meals can be taken either in private in the suite’s dining area or at the main camp. It can be booked separately or in conjunction with the Albida Suite.
Chongwe River House sleeps eight people in four spacious en-suite bedrooms, making a ideal safari base for a family or a group of friends wanting a private safari. Many animals come to the Chongwe River to drink and from the deck the game viewing can be as good as any safari activity.
At Chongwe River Camp, activities are tailored to make the most of this incredibly diverse wilderness. Game viewing can be done from a vehicle in either the Lower Zambezi National Park or the Chiawa Partnership Park or, if you prefer, from a boat on the Zambezi. Canoeing, walking and, of course, fishing, are also offered. And for those interested in the rich cultural heritage of the area, community visits can be arranged.
