Belmond Governor’s Residence

A romantic, colonial-style mansion dating from the 1920’s, Belmond Governor's Residence is redolent of the days when it was home to the ruler of Myanmar's southern states.

With its fan-cooled verandas and inviting wooden armchairs, the delightful Belmond Governor’s Residence in the elegant Embassy Quarter of Yangon, conjures up a bygone era, while offering every modern pleasure. Set in a verdant garden dotted with lotus pools, the hotel is magical at the end of a day spent visiting the majestic Shwedagon Pagoda.

With only 49 rooms and suites, all housed in the original building, Belmond Governor’s Residence offers an intimate experience. All of the rooms are beautifully appointed with teak furniture and silks and have views either onto the inner courtyard or the lotus gardens.

The hotel has a lovely fan-shaped swimming pool, surrounded by the tropical gardens and the Mandalay Restaurant offers local and Western cuisine, often served al-fresco in the balmy evening air by lantern light. There are also two atmospheric bars for evening cocktails. The aptly-named Governor’s Oasis is home to the hotel’s spa which offers a range of relaxing treatments.
