Anderssons at Ongava
Turning the focus to conservation Anderssons at Ongava is built around Ongava Research Centre. The first of it's kind, the research centre offers the "next generation eco-tourism". Aside from exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities on the 30,000-hectare private game reserve, guests at Anderssons can be part of conservation science, where cutting edge technology meets hands on, field-based research.
Ensuring a light footprint, Anderssons at Ongava has only seven contemporary, luxurious guests suites and one family unit. Each of these suites is designed to blend with its natural surroundings, while offering a climate-controlled sanctuary in the bush. With 180-degree panoramic views over the bush and decor that lends itself to a naturalist’s home with neutral, natural tones inviting the outside in. Each spacious suite has a relaxing lounge area, double vanity en-suite facilities with double indoor and outdoor showers and tea / coffee making facilities.
A centrally positioned infinity-edge swimming pool and surrounding lounge area is open to the elements and allows views of the waterhole and beyond. The social area, where guests gather for meals and to meet fellow wildlife enthusiasts, guides and naturalists, encompasses an undercover and open-air dining area, spacious lounge and bar, a sunken observation terrace, and open fireplaces.
A sunken hide adds a whole new dimension to a camp experience, with a water level view of the prolific wild and birdlife that frequents the waterhole. Incredibly, your in room smart TV is connected to the hide, enabling you to watch what is happening at the waterhole from the comfort of your suite, 24/7.
In addition, for specialist photographers, there is a dedicated photographic nook for review and editing of images. A short walk from the camp is the Ongava Research Centre, home to resident scientists. Guests can access the self-guided exhibition area or join an interactive presentation / discussion when available.
Activities on the reserve are the same as that at their sister property, Little Ongava, including beautiful 4×4 game drives with expert guides, nature walks and specialist rhino walks / approaches. Due to it’s location, guests can also enjoy all day trips into nearby Etohsa National Park, one of Africa’s great wildlife destinations, before returning to the tranquillity and space of Ongava’s private game reserve.
