Awasi Atacama
Awasi is the perfect base from which to explore the Atacama Desert. The atmosphere is immediately warm and friendly and every detail has been thought through from hand-made blankets to keep you warm at night to surprise picnic lunches prepared in hidden spots of the desert with views that you will never forget.
Now that the Atacama is well and truly on the map, there is no shortage of luxury properties to choose from. However, we are careful to only work with lodges that can guarantee the remote, isolated experience that this desert deserves. Awasi is a good example. Each guest is provided with their own vehicle and a guide, who knows the landscape better than anyone. They know when to visit certain sites to ensure there will be minimum in the way of crowds and other locations that most people don’t know about. We will always let the Awasi team know ahead of time what your interests are – wildlife? Culture? Geology? Volcano-Climbing? Your interests will be matched to the perfect guide.
The lodge itself is warm and cosy with private adobe ‘banda’ huts designed with local textiles and rugs. The courtyard garden centres around a swimming pool and, at night, fire pits, candles and fairy lights provide a soft and welcoming glow. The food is lovingly prepared by an expert team of chefs that deliver a menu of local cuisine and international dishes.
