Camellia Hills
With a spectacular setting amongst verdant tea plantations and limited to five fabulous guestrooms, Camellia Hills offers a highly personal experience, melding old world tradition with contemporary style. Here you feel as if you are entering you own “home from home”, designed with a contemporary interpretation of a tea planter’s bungalow with a fabulous team of friendly staff.
A stunning boutique hotel overlooking the panoramic splendour of Castlereagh Reservoir, Camellia Hills is split across a series of levels, flaunting superb hill country views. Each of the five guestrooms is designed with its own individual character, with picture perfect views over the reservoir or lush surrounding hillside. The décor is fresh and modern, yet French doors and four poster beds add a traditional touch in keeping with the area’s rich history. In the garden lies a 10-metre infinity swimming pool and a relaxation Ambalama, a Sinhalese word meaning “welcoming resting place for weary travellers”.
Dining here is relaxed, personalised and atmospheric. The views take centre stage too; sip sundowners beside the crackling fireplace in the convivial sitting room, or feast on delicious dishes from a curated Sri Lankan and international menu on the lake-facing terrace. Guests dine on an All-Inclusive basis which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, complimentary soft drinks, beer and house wine, alcohol with mixers and tea or coffee throughout the day.
Days are spent exploring the diverse nuances of this culture-rich region, characterised by Sri Lanka’s historic tea industry. Stroll through lush tea plantations on gentle picturesque hikes, explore local waterfalls with a picnic, climb mystical Adam’s peak, or venture further afield to Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka’s highest town. Curated in-house activities also include bird watching, canoeing on the reservoir with a local fisherman, cooking demonstrations and late-night wilderness walks.
