Hacienda Zuleta
This stunning 17th century working-farm was the residence of Ecuador’s former President Galo Plaza Lasso and his family. A pretty two hour drive from Quito brings guests to this warm and friendly hacienda nestled deep in the Andes.
Centuries-old mountain trails leading to local market towns can be explored on horseback, 4×4, foot or by bike. The Hacienda is part of a 4000 acre working farm and the farmhands delight in showing guests around and explaining how local methods are used to cultivate the land. The landscape that surrounds Hacienda Zuleta is stunning with Andean peaks spilling into lush and fertile valleys.
Zuleta’s resident chef, who lives and breathes local recipes is always delighted to give cooking classes using produce from the farm’s organic gardens. Embroidery classes are also available for those who would like to try their hand at this local tradition. Birdwatchers will also be delighted to discover a variety of species here from tiny, delicate hummingbirds to the mighty condor.
