Happy House
The Happy House is a place where, "Our only wish is for you to leave with memories more happier than dreams."
Perched at 2,500 meters above sea level in Nepal’s remote Eastern region within the Himalaya, surrounded by whispering pine forests and blooming rhododendrons, lies The Happy House; a soulful retreat steeped in Sherpa heritage and Himalayan legend.
Originally built as a traditional mountain chalet known as Hotel del Sherpa, this charming home earned its joyful name from none other than Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to summit Mount Everest. During one of his many long stays, he affectionately dubbed it “The Happy House” — a name that has endured through decades of warm hospitality and fire-side stories.
Today, The Happy House welcomes guests like family. Its colourful interiors are adorned with hand-painted Buddhist Thangka frescoes, cosy throws, well-worn adventure books, and maps inviting exploration. Candlelight dances off stone walls, and the scent of woodsmoke from the fire creates an atmosphere that is at once grounding and magical.
With ten en-suite bedrooms, the house overlooks peaceful garden terraces, a dedicated yoga and meditation pavilion, and a candle-lit massage room designed for deep rest and renewal. Mealtimes are personal and thoughtful, served in a variety of tucked-away spots across the property, from shaded courtyards to starlit verandas.
Days here unfold entirely around you. With your own dedicated guide, choose from tailor-made experiences. A few of our favourites are hikes through sacred forests, visiting local Tibetan monasteries and mountain bike to hidden hilltops for picnic lunches or overnight camping under the stars. Wherever you go, you’re met with the genuine warmth of Nepali hospitality.
At the heart of The Happy House is Ang Tshering Lama, whose passion for the region radiates throughout every detail. As founder of the Phaplu Mountain Bike Club, his mission goes beyond travel — supporting the local youth and preserving the spirit of Solukhumbu for future generations. His kindness and boundless energy shape the essence of The Happy House.
