With 11 tented bungalows decorated in an earthy yet luxurious style, the lodge is a perfect base for exploring Sossusvlei's magnificent sand dunes. Named after a flowering cactus, Hoodia Desert Lodge is a charming oasis of calm. Each of the 11 rooms is set well apart with windows on three sides to ensure plenty of light and wonderful desert views from your bed. The style is understated luxury; with earthy tones, crisp white linens, swathes of mosquito net and colourful scatter cushions. Air-conditioning will keep you warm in the summer heat, and en-suite bathrooms come with an open air bath and shower. All the bungalows face either the dry river or the plains and mountains beyond, perfect for watching the sunset from their shaded verandah.

There is a stylish lounge and bar built under thatch, with polished terracotta floors, comfortable seating and bold local art adding splashes of colour. An airy restaurant, with a central fireplace which doubles as a braai in summer, opens onto a raised wooden terrace overlooking the river bed, a great spot for bird watching as well as for sundowners or drinks after dinner. A short timber walkway leads to the swimming pool and sundeck sculpted into natural rock.

Hoodia Desert Lodge offers a wide range of activities, including excursions to Sossusvlei, hiking to Sesrium Canyon, sundowner drives and scenic drives, plus the lodge can also organise ballooning trips over the dunes.
