Kotiyagala Luxury Villas
A modern eco retreat on the edge of the Indian Ocean and neighbouring Yala National Park in Southern Sri Lanka. In house naturalists guide guests through the tropical wilds that lie beyond the retreat, returning to a sensational Ayurveda Spa to unwind and reset.
Kotiyagala Luxury Villas is a luxury Eco Retreat, designed with the protection of the surrounding eco system at it’s core. Built on stilts, 12 foot above lush vegetation and powered entirely by solar energy, guests will find jungle inspired hues and textiles throughout the property.
Twelve modern villas are connected by winding timber pathways and offer guests the utmost in comfort. Each villa has a lavish king sized bed, modern customised furniture, a soft sitting room area, en-suite bathroom with rain shower and deep soaking bath. Externally, thatched roofes keep the villas cool and floor to ceiling glass windows frame the villas private deck, freshwater infinity pool and exceptional panoramic views beyond.
At the heart of the property is an enormous lounge, dining and pool area. Their restaurant, The Dune, creates locally inspired menus using local ingredients – a fusion of Western and local cuisine. Meals can also be enjoyed on your own private deck, on the beach and it is even possible to enjoy a “breakfast in pool” if you simply cannot peel yourself away from the poolside.
Specialising in rejuvenation and renewal techniques, the Ayurveda Spa uses ancient Ayurvedic traditions within modern surroundings. WIth unique elements like The Storm Room and black out chamber (equipped with a jacuzzi that mimics the sensation of a storm with splashing water, strobe lighting and sound effects) leaves you invigorated. An Ice Room provides a cooling environment from the jungle heat whilst a state of the art gym enables guests to work out with beautiful views over the canopy and outdoor yoga sessions – as close to nature as possible.
Activities outside of the villas have been curated to embrace the local area. Known for it’s abundant and diverse flora and fauna, Yala National Park is beautiful to explore. Daily 4×4 safaris in search for the elusive leopard or sloth and, for keen photographers, guests can be accompanied by a professional photographer, renting high end camera equipment from the resort. For those seeking a deeper understanding of the park on site naturalists are available to provide guided excursions, peeling back the layers of the parks biodiversity.
