La Folie Lodge

La Folie Lodge is located on the northwest side of tiny Dong Daeng Island in the middle of the mighty Mekong river. Across the water from the small town of Champasak, and accessed by a 20 minute boat ride, this authentic eco-lodge gives the wonderful opportunity to escape the outside world, relax by the pool and soak up the glorious sunsets. With a deserted sand beach directly out the front, it’s hard to believe you in a land-locked country.

The Residence, formerly the owner’s private house, comes equipped with a housekeeper and gardener and offers two en suite bedrooms. It is ideal for a family group looking for additional privacy.

The lodge’s airy central pavilion houses the atmospheric restaurant, bar and lounge.  Guests have the option of both Lao specialities and continental dishes with produce sourced from local markets, Bolaven farms, and the lodge’s own organic garden. La Folie has one of the few swimming pools in southern Laos.  Overlooking the river, it’s the perfect spot to soak up the rays, spot one the 39 species of bird, or take in the sunset with a cocktail in hand.

With no cars allowed, the island it is best explored by bicycle or foot, and the lodge provide complimentary bikes for guests. On the beaches you’ll see lazy water buffalo and local fisherman bringing in their daily catch and inland there are small villages to explore. For those looking to go further afield, La Folie also makes a great base from which to visit Wat Phou, the 4,000 Islands and the Bolaven Plateau.
