Macatoo Camp
Macatoo Camp, the base for African Horseback Safaris, is situated on the western side of the Okavango Delta. Covering 17,000 km sq, the Okavango is the largest inland delta in the world, a mix of labyrinth channels, palm fringed islands and fertile floodplains.
Trapped in the parched sands of the Kalahari desert, it is a magnet for the wildlife who depend on the delta’s life giving waters. More than 400 species of resident and migrant birds, lions, elephant, hyenas, wild dog, buffalo, hippo and crocodiles congregate with a variety of antelope and smaller animals – warthog, mongoose, genets, monkeys and bush babies to name a few.
The stunning camp features eight large luxury en-suite safari tents on raised wooden platforms overlooking floodplains where elephant, zebra, buck and the birdlife can be seen by visitors from their private verandahs or even bed! Centrally there is a large well-appointed mess tent and tucked away, a private pool.
A tented ‘honeymoon suite’ complete with a bath on a raised platform and a larger private deck allows newlyweds and celebrating couples to enjoy a very special private dining experience. While the ‘family and friends suite’ comprises two tents, linked by a walkway and viewing deck above ground, to provide direct, easy access and peace of mind for parents, children and single travellers who are anxious about sleeping alone in the bush.
The overall feel and look of Macatoo will always be preserved to provide guests the most comfortable, authentic, unpretentious, safari experience possible.
