Mahu Whenua

Meaning "Healing the Land", Mahu Whenua is an intimate lodge within an expansive 136,000 eco-sanctuary near Queenstown, on the South Island. The rolling lush green valleys, forests and towering mountains provide the perfect canvas for an indulgent and adventurous time spent on some of the most iconic, and dramatic, natural alpine scenery in New Zealand.

Just 70kms from Queenstown, Mahu Whenua has all the natural advantages of it’s well-known neighbours but at a much slower pace and, in completely privacy. Mahu Whenua is the country’s largest private conservation project, regenerating extensive farmland by introducing more sustainable practices and implementing a significant native plant regeneration programme.

With only five suites, each enjoying expansive lake and mountain views, the property can be taken as an exclusive use property or booked on an individual basis. Rustic, but homely, the simple yet multi layered décor is testament to the owner retaining the charm and character of the surrounding landscape.

The property has endless spaces to unwind. A sprawling farmhouse kitchen, large open plan living room, dining room, heated infinity pool and numerous outdoor areas allowing guests to absorb the scenery, dine al fresco or lounge poolside.

Within the 136,000 acres, guests can enjoy horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, cooking courses and helicopter skiing. Learn about the native plant and bird species with their in-house conservation team and their sustainable farming techniques with the team.

The onsite helicopter pad enables quick and easy transfers or helicopter based activities in the nearby area including the Fiordland National Park or Mount Aspiring National Park. You could easily stay here a week, enjoying a different adventure each day, soaking up the beautiful diversity of South Island.
