Mashatu Euphorbia Villas
A private 31,000 hectare unfenced reserve with incredible vistas, unusual topography and open terrain in the most south easterly part of Botswana. The land of giants with elephant, boababs and lion, Mashatu offers an adventurous safari with walking, cycling and horse riding all available from the comfort of your luxurious Euphorbia villa.
Located in southern Botswana, sharing unfenced borders with both South Africa and Zimbabwe, Mashatu forms part of a cross boundary wildlife conservation area protecting the substantial biodiversity of fauna and flora of this region.
Mashatu Euphorbia Villas are the newest addition within the private Mashatu Game reserve. Set atop a cliff, beneath towering euphorbia succulents, 8 eco luxury villas designed to depict the Mopane seedpod, enjoy an earthy glamour with solar heated private plunge pools, solar air conditioning and state-of-the-art water treatment and recycling systems. Peacefully located overlooking a ravine, the villas are expansive with indoor and outdoor showers, an inside W/C and a second “loo with a view” and cosy nooks to relax, read or enjoy your morning coffee as the sun rises.
Unlike its famous Delta cousin in the north, the area here is very dry. Well suited for those seeking a more active safari experience, Mashatu offers an array of activities. As well as expertly guided 4×4 safaris, Mashatu have guides to take you on exhilarating horse riding, cycling and walking safaris. Trust us, with the amount of delicious cuisine on the menu, getting out of a vehicle for a while is welcomed! More importantly, getting out of a vehicle changes ones perspective of your surroundings, sharpening ones senses.
In addition, Mashatu offers an excellent elephant-proof, ground-level hide. Here guests can view wildlife undetected, observing their individual characteristics and family dynamics in their natural state. For photographers, what is additionally impressive is that the hide has been positioned with consideration of the angle of the sun, the background, and the angle the viewer occupies in relation to the animals and birds. A professional wildlife photographer is also available to help photographers of all levels to capture “that shot”.
Mashatu means the “Land of Giants”, taking it’s name from the giants that can be found on it’s terrain. The world’s largest land mammal, the African elephant, the world’s tallest animal, the giraffe, the world’s largest antelope, the eland, the world’s heaviest flying bird, the kori bustard and, adding the king of beats, the lion and the iconic baobab tree, these comprise Mashatu’s big seven land-based giants.
