Mt Mulligan Lodge
Where luxury meets quintessentially Australian rugged outback beauty in Far North Queensland. Situated in a secluded, private 28,000 hectare heritage site on the slopes of Mount Mulligan. Designed to capture the adventurer in everyone, the majestic sandstone mountain towers over the eucalyptus woodlands, sparkling weir and cattle station below.
Sitting in the shadow of Mount Mulligan, a sandstone monolith that stretches 18 kms (ten times that of Uluru), is Mount Mulligan Lodge. This vast, remote tract of land has a deep and significant spiritual history dating 40,000 years and was made famous in the early 1900’s by Hodgkinson goldfield as well as being a thriving coal mining town.
Today, the area is focussed on raising cattle. Built in 2019, the lodge has been designed with inspiration taken from the ranch and developed into a “luxurious pastoral living” style. High ceilings with a shimmering roof, recycled timber beams and lavish camp style chairs. In keeping with the pastoral living is the welcoming, generous feel to the lodge. The full height, double sided fireplace and “help yourself” bar and snack station create a real sense of home from home.
This is continued into the rooms. Spacious pavilions with cosy wood burning fire and private decks, each with wonderful views. For families there is a great two bedroom pavilion with shared communal lounge.
Mount Mulligan takes great pride in its light, contemporary and daily changing menu showcasing locally sourced and freshly-grown seasonal ingredients. There is almost always a twist on outback living included in the menu which can be a highlight that you didn’t know you were expecting!
A range of experiences have been designed to make the most of the rugged outback territory. Guided tours of the goldfields including a sighting of Australia’s oldest operating gold stamper at Tyrconnell, exploration of the historic Mount Mulligan coal mine and abandoned township bring the history of the area into the present day. ATV adventures exploring the beauty of the region with chef-prepared gourmet picnic hampers, wildlife spotting, sunset drinks overlooking the escarpment, stargazing, hikes around the southern face of Mount Mulligan, barramundi fishing, paddle boarding or kayaking in the weir and scenic helicopter flights to see this majestic outback region from above. There are even daily opportunities for guests to take a 2.5 hour tour of the farm where they can even get involved in one of the quarterly musters.
