Nihi Sumba
Nihi Sumba, formerly Nihiwatu, is a unique and intimate, luxury eco retreat, situated within 560 hectares and 2.5km of pristine beach on the little known and beautifully preserved Indonesian island of Sumba.
Undiscovered by mass tourism, the island is located 250 miles southeast of Bali. With a short, one-hour flight, visitors can discover virgin landscapes, picture-perfect beaches, tropical scenery and a fascinating tribal culture.
Nihi Sumba was borne out of a vision to protect and preserve the unique culture of Sumba and empower the local communities to support themselves and their families through The Sumba Foundation. As a result, the island has been left almost entirely in its wild natural state. The villas are styled with a rustic charm that combines Sumbanese craftsmanship with contemporary design. True to it’s ethos, Nihi Sumba’s staff is made up of over 90% of local Sumbanese residents.
Nihi Sumba is home to 28 luxury eco villas with 38 rooms in a one, two, three, four, or five-bedroom layout, most have a private pool, perfect for couples and families alike. Constructed using local materials, each villa is air-conditioned with panoramic views of the ocean ahead.
At Nio Beach Club, a state of the art resort lap pool, take in epic views of the expansive beach and watch surfers tackle one of the world’s great surfing waves, Occy’s Left. Other activities include the best sport fishing in Indonesia, hiking through beautiful landscapes to dramatic waterfalls, ancient villages and butterfly trails and stand-up paddling down the Wanukaka River. For the ultimate spa experience, enjoy a Nio Oka Spa Safari where after an early morning trek and healthy breakfast you can enjoy a day of unlimited spa treatments in a private pavilion overlooking the bluest of oceans.
