Nine Skies

Perched amongst the meandering hills lined with tea plantations is the beautifully restored Nine Skies. Just outside Ella, Nine Skies is a wonderful blend of traditional warmth and modern indulgence.

With only five bedrooms, Nine Skies has a naturally intimate feel with far reaching views of the hill country. Each of the spacious five bedrooms open onto garden terraces with chairs and a table to enjoy the wonderful sights. Ella Rock is perhaps our favourite suite, with it’s own sitting room and French windows opening onto the terrace, providing even more space than one of the three Demodara bedrooms. The fifth room, Nine Skies, has twin beds and an interleading door a Demodara room – ideal for families. And, as a real treat, each room is serviced by a private butler, who knows exactly how you like your tea.

Within the boutique hotel you will find beautiful art pieces and artifacts from the colonial era, sitting within a chic, modern interior. The lawn leads out to an infinity pool and sunlounge deck, a spot where you can easily spend a day with a good book listening to the quiet rhythm of the surrounding team plantations and local bird life. All meals are included and there is much on offer. Breakfasts on the terrace, tea in the garden and freshly cooked gourmet meals can be enjoyed within the bungalow or outside, weather and preference dependant.

Only a ten minute stroll from the Demodara Railway Station, guests at Nine Skies can enjoy watching the daily train slowly chug by. Originally built to transport tea from the Hill Country down to Colombo, the stretch between Ella and Demodara is significant for it’s nine-arched bridged, known locally as “Ahas Navaya” (Nine Skies). There is a huge amount to explore from Nine Skies, from a leisurely walk to the Nine Arch Bridge to more adrenaline fuelled adventures nearby such as zip lining and abseiling which we can arrange on your behalf.
