Reserva do Ibitipoca

Reserva do Ibitipoca is a stunning hideaway in the rolling hills of Ibitipoca State Park amid swathes of Atlantic Rainforest that drape the Ibitipoca mountain range and the Mantiqueira mountains.

Reserva do Ibitipoca was created in 1981 on the Fazenda do Engenho (Engenho’s Farm), one of the oldest farms in the region. The owners have now transformed the 4000 hectares of land into a reserve in order to reintroduce native species that have long gone due to over-farming. The landscape is little-visited by tourists and isolated waterfalls, gentle flowing rivers and rolling hills can all be discovered in peace on foot, 4×4 or from the saddle on stunning Anglo-Arabian horses.

The farm’s eight rooms are designed with an almost perfect balance of elegant local design with a modern twist; Egyptian cotton sheets are tucked under rugs made from local Brazilian textiles. Hammocks are draped on shady verandas or between trees in the garden facing the lake.

The spa is excellent with a number of treatments on offer and all oils are organic and produced exclusively for Ibitipoca. Hot footbath therapy, four hand, scalp and hot stone massages and wine therapy facials are just some of the bespoke therapies to choose from and all performed by highly trained therapists. Daily yoga, power yoga and stretching classes take place in the morning and late afternoon.

The Reserve can be accessed via a private charter flight directly to a private landing strip or by car from Rio (approximately three hours).
