Suján Sher Bagh
Suján Sher Bagh embraces the grand, opulent style of the Imperial Raj. beautiful stretched canvas throughout with handcrafted campaign furniture and impeccable service, guests enjoy a safari experience of an era celebrated for its joie de vivre.
Suján Sher Bagh is an ideal base from which to explore the billion-year old forest of Ranthambore in the royal state of Rajasthan, home to the majestic tiger.
Nine tented “Jungle Suites” are inspired by the adventurous charm of old world safari camps in India. Each suite has a generous ensuite bathroom with a large brass bathtub and open stone shower. Glass and canvas walls open onto a private veranda overlooking the grasses of the jungle beyond.
Two further suites are of similar design, but offer additional space and seclusion. The Royal Sher Suite has it’s own heated plunge pool and the Imperial Raj Bagh Suite, the finest address in camp, has two double bedroom suites with a connecting deck, open fireplace and lap pool – ideal for family or friends travelling together.
The double width mess tent is vast and open fronted, offering prime views over the surrounding bush. No detail has been spared, with beautiful leather seating, hand crafted rosewood and teak furniture, brass lighting, a wide variety of reference books and well stocked bar. The dining tent sets the stage for Sujáns gastronomic adventure. Ingredients from their organic kitchen garden, farm and daily are chosen by the chefs to deliver outstanding flavours with Anglo-Indian and European lunches with Indian suppers cooked over outdoor clay ovens.
Within camp there is an outdoor pool, spa, gym, boutique (space in your suitcase would be useful here) and a wonderful campfire area – where drinks after supper are enjoyed under the stars.
Days are spent exploring the magnificent Ranthambore National Park in open 4×4 jeeps with an expert guide and driver. Morning and afternoon drives last approximately 3-5 hours as you search for a variety of wildlife including sloth bears, crocodiles, leopard, antelopes, deer and, of course, tiger. In addition, the park is home to 300 species of birds, from migratory paradise flycatchers to resident kingfishers.
It is also possible to enjoy an excursion to the UNESCO Ranthambhore Fort, a magnificent building with Sultanate and Rajpur palaces, mosques and temples, all with a birds eye view over the park.
