The Andean Explorer

South American’s first and only sleeper train, Andean Explorer takes guests on an odyssey of natural wonders. One and two night journeys connect the three beautiful cities of Cusco, Puno and Arequipa, gliding across La Raya mountain range on one of the world’s highest rail routes.

The Andean Explorer, a Belmond Train, gently weaves through the diverse terrain, connecting it’s passengers to Peru’s heritage, mythology and natural beauty. Charming cities fade into the distance, revealing sacred landscapes, steep gorges, remote ruins and meandering rivers. The ever-changing scenery is tantalisingly close from the open-air observation platform, and the unhurried pace lets guests absorb the layers of Peru in refined comfort.

Unique off-train activities include adventures on Lake Titicaca, such as exploring the fascinating Uros Islands and a blissful Taquile Beach experience, visits to the prehistoric Sumbay Caves with their fascinating 8,000-year-old etchings, and journeys to the Quechua and Aymara communities in the rugged and remote highlands.

On board, interiors embrace ancient local cultures with Peruvian motifs and sacred symbols, as well as hand-woven textiles and soft alpaca wool. Cabins are personal sanctuaries, each with private ensuites. In the dining carriages, contemporary Andean specialities are prepared with local, seasonal produce from along the train’s route. Reviving rituals in the Picaflor Spa car harness the healing power of the Peruvian landscape. Voyages are further elevated by the exceptional talents of musicians, storytellers, staff and guides.

When our worlds can move so fast, the Andean Explorer encourages you to slow down and time travelling through the more remote, untouched parts of Peru in comfort and style.
