Water Garden Sigiriya

Set in lush, lake lined gardens framing Sigiriya, Water Garden Sigiriya is one of our favourite hotels in Sri Lanka. Offering exceptional cuisine, organic spa therapies and the opportunity to enjoy a tranquil sense of place in one of the most culturally significant areas of the island, Water Garden Sigiriya encapsulates many of the deep rooted elements that make up Sri Lanka's past and present characteristics.

Designed by Channa Daswatta, a renowned student of Geoffrey Bawa, Water Garden Sigiriya was created to perfectly frame the fifth century fortress of Sigiriya, atop a 180m high natural column of rock, a mere 6km away. The symmetry is staggering with 30 immaculate villas nestled within the expansive property, along reed lined tributaries and lush gardens. Each villa is designed to highlight the natural surrounding beauty with large floor to ceiling glass walls, overlooking some of the many streams and gardens beyond, home to peacocks, lizards and monkeys.

The luxurious villas all offer a large amount of space with one or two bedrooms and a separate living area. Most also have their own plunge pools and some feel like private islands, surrounded by the gardens water features. The spa stands on stilts above one of the many ponds, a carefully crafted oasis of wellness, tranquillity, and beauty. Organic products are used in all treatments and, uniquely, specialist Balinese massages are available. There is a large main swimming pool and there are plenty of activities to keep guests entertained from croquet to cookery classes.

Perfectly located for visiting some of the culturally sacred sites of interest in the Cultural Triangle and with the hotel’s idyllic setting and award-winning service, there is more than enough reason to put up your feet for a few days and relax.
