Xigera Safari Lodge

Framing a wildlife rich floodplain and riverine forest, Xigera blends naturally with its surroundings. One of the newer, most luxurious lodges in Botswana, Xigera promises a different type of safari, where guests can shape their experience exactly as they like. "Anything anytime is possible".

Location is everything when it comes to safari and Xigera sits in a privileged part of the Western Moremi, with private access to an enormous 4,500 hectares of wetland paradise.

Surrounded by picturesque papyrus swamps and woodland islands, Xigera can accommodate 24 guests in uniquely designed suites, each with front row seats over the waterways and bush beyond. The interiors celebrate African creativity, filled with bespoke art, commissioned specifically for the lodge, paying homage to both the human and natural heritage of Botswana. From furniture makers to painters, carpenters to sculptors, the design is completely unique to anywhere else in Africa.

Thoughtfully spread across two islands, Xigera has 12 luxurious fully air-conditioned suites, elevated on stilts under the shade of the trees. Each suite is huge spacious with deep sofas, quirky chairs and chic design in both the bedroom and lounge area, with a private deck running the length of the suite with private gazebo. The family suite has two separate, full sized ensuite bedrooms with an adjoining sitting room.

Safari at Xigera is enjoyed entirely at your own pace. There are no set times, no itineraries, just the question of how you want to spend your day: exploring the waterways by glass bottomed boat or on the upper deck? 4×4 safari to discover more of the reserve or removing all engines and paddling in a 2 seater Mokoro.

Wildlife encounters here are awe inspiring, with a healthy population of predators including lion, leopard and spotted hyena. The area is especially well known for its high density of sitatunga as well as a healthy population of red lechwe, spotted-necked otter, elephant, buffalo, reedbuck and tsessebe. It is not unheard of for the lion to use the footbridge connecting Xigera to the neighbouring island as a drier option! Birding here is equally as impressive and there is a great opportunity to spot some of the “Okavango Specials” including the majestic Pel’s Fishing-owl, graceful African Skimmer, Wattled Crane, African Pygmy Goose and so much more.

Xigera is, perhaps, the connoisseurs choice of safari lodge. Not one element of a guests stay has not been deeply, and well, thought out. Aside from the sensational safari experiences, the in-house wellness spa, interactive open kitchen and museum style interior décor provides another level of experiential luxury in the bush.
