Chem Chem Lodge

Set on 20,000 hectares of untainted African bush between Tarangire National Park and bird rich Lake Manyara, luxurious Chem Chem Lodge is the perfect place to immerse yourself in an authentic Tanzanian wilderness experience. The concept of a Slow Safari was born at Chem Chem, beyond the confines of a vehicle, where on foot guests can see, feel, touch and smell the African bush for themselves.

Chem Chem Lodge offers eight beautifully stylish and secluded tented suites, designed to reflect the ethos of the camp, evoking the spirit of vintage safari. With each tented suite situated at least 80 metres apart from each other, you are ensured total privacy each with views across a dry salt pan, perfect for unrestricted game sightings. Rooms are natural yet luxurious, with a level of detail one expects from a lodge of this calibre. Fall asleep in the softest bed linen to the distant laugh of a hyena, the click of crickets, a night jar’s call. Awake to the sounds of the wilderness stretching and yawning. Soak yourself in a luxury bath or invigorate the senses with an outdoor shower. Stretch and meditate on a yoga mat on your private patio or drift away in a soft breeze on the day bed.

Family groups are catered for with a full suite connected by a small wooden bridge to a vintage-style tented room (50 m²) with its own indoor shower. It can sleep up to three children and two adults. Chem Chem offers wonderful interactive activities for their younger visitors, although the lodge does allow children under six years.

The Lodge’s central space which reflects the elegant shape of a flamingo with wings spread for landing. One wing is home to the gourmet dining area and an outside fire pit. The other hosts a fully-stocked bar, lounge, fireplace and well-stocked library. A viewing deck offers vistas that stretch forever over the East African wilderness. A swimming pool is hidden beneath the trees to cool off from the midday sun, and the Chem Chem Spa offers the ultimate in relaxation.

Chem Chem Lodge is in our opinion best suited for a longer stay, so you can enjoy the host of activities on offer, and relax and unwind in this special place. Adventures include day excursions to both Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Park, bird watching, bush breakfasts, hot air ballooning, cultural tours, as well as walking safaris and night game drives on the lodge’s private concession.

In addition to the main lodge, Chem Chem also offers two additional camps; Little Chem Chem and Forest Chem Chem. Set on the other side of the private concession, bordering on to Tarangire National Park, these camps are better suited to guests looking for an intensive game experience, mainly exploring Tarangire National Park. Little Chem Chem comprises eight private vintage tents, whereas Forest Chem Chem, with four luxury vintage tents, is booked on an exclusive-use basis for private groups.
