The newest addition to The Royal Portfolio’s eclectic, art-filled collection, Franschhoek House is set within the scenic Franschhoek Valley on the 30-acre private La Residence estate. Surrounded by mountains and vineyards, it captures the spirit of a refined country home in the Cape Winelands.
Built around a magnificent 200-year-old oak tree, this secluded villa offers privacy and space, ideal for extended families or groups of friends. The house features six luxurious en-suite bedrooms, each with a bath and shower, designed by founder Liz Biden to reflect understated elegance while honouring the region’s French heritage—Franschhoek meaning “French Corner”.
Interiors are opulent yet inviting, showcasing bespoke design with ceramics and textiles sourced from around the world, collected during the Biden family’s travels. These sit alongside works by both emerging and established South African artists, creating a layered and characterful aesthetic.
Franschhoek House is fully staffed by a warm, attentive team. Meals are tailored to guests’ preferences and can be enjoyed in the courtyard, kitchen, or on the verandah, with locally sourced ingredients and produce from their own herb garden and orchard.
Children of all ages are warmly welcomed, with a range of activities available or created on request. Budding chefs can join the chef in the kitchen, while the surrounding area offers endless walking and cycling trails. After days spent exploring the Winelands, the infinity pool provides the perfect place to unwind. For deeper relaxation, an in-house La Residence wellness therapist can be arranged at the villa.
