A beautifully family run Hacienda stretching across 1,000 hectares in Northern Costa Rica. An Exclusive Use property for up to 16 people, days here are spent following the rhythm of the farm, riding out with the sabaneros or enjoying beautiful treks, ending by a crackling fire under the stars.
Hacienda Montezuma is nestled within a tranquil and breathtakingly beautiful area of Costa Rica’s Northern Guanacaste Province, bordering the wildlife rich Bijagua region. Hacienda translates as “a working cattle ranch” and Hacienda Montezuma welcomes guest with open arms to enjoy and participate in their Costa Rican country way of living.
Sleeping 16 in total between two houses, the combines use of Spanish colonial architecture layered with rich local textiles create a warm, rustic and luxurious comfortable home.
And the wonderful Hacienda team know every inch of the local area; it’s plants, trees and wildlife, and guide their guests on scenic treks through the rainforest, identifying the many different mammals, bird species and butterflies or take guests to the lake in search of catching a fish. Guests can also enjoy paddleboarding, swimming and are welcome to spend time on the farm to learn about the cattle as well as spending time with the sabaneros. A real highlight for all the family.
Dining is enjoyed in various locations around the property in keeping with the weather and preference of the guests. The in-house chefs use the freshest of ingredients grown in the vegetable garden and it is possible to arrange a cooking class or two over your stay.
Completely off grid, Hacienda Montezuma operates with the lightest of touches on the land. As well as being a highly productive farm, the family protects a vast area where there has been an introduction of species such as tapirs, anteaters and sloths. Neighbouring the National Park, they work in line with the parks conservation efforts to safeguard it’s future.
Only 1.5 hours from Liberia or 3 hours from San Jose, Hacienda Montezuma is easily accessible and a truly unique experience.
