Kwando Lagoon Camp
Kwando Lagoon Camp is perched on the banks of the Kwando River in Northern Botswana, nestled beneath towering ebony and marula trees. It is one of just two camps found within the 232,000 hectare Kwando Concession, one of the largest private wildlife concessions in Botswana.
With a maximum of 18 guests, Kwando Lagoon Camp has a classic rustic style, but the focus above all is on high quality game-viewing. The Kwando Reserve has a well-earned reputation for big game and large herds of elephant and buffalo, especially in the winter months, when herds of up to a thousand are not uncommon. This vast concentration of game attracts the attention of large predators. The Lagoon wild dog pack regularly den close to the camp and the excellent viewing opportunities have led to Lagoon’s reputation as the place to see wild dog in Botswana.
Each of the eight tents has a private deck, living area and bathroom facing onto the river. All have inside and outdoor showers and one tent includes an additional twin room for family use. The main thatched areas of the camp include a bar/lounge, dining area, curio shop and second-level library overlooking the river. There is also a plunge pool and outdoor deck with a swing. Seasonally large herds of elephant drink at the river bank by the camp in full view of the main deck, while pods of hippos are commonly seen languidly sunbathing in the water.
Activities are tailored to the individual ensuring best possible safari experience. Day and night game drives are offered and due to the location in a private concession, these can go off-road to allow vehicles to be positioned closer to special predator sighting which enhances the photographic and game viewing experience. Guided walks are also a great way truly appreciate the natural environment. Another special feature of the camp is the afternoon river cruise. The unique double deck boat allows guests the opportunity to drift along the river while enjoying spectacular view and wildlife while sipping a ‘sundowner’ of choice. For those guests who enjoy fishing, there is ample room to throw a line in the water while the boat meanders along.
