Kwandwe Ecca Lodge
Set within the vast 22,000 hectare Kwandwe Private Game Reserve, Kwandwe Ecca Lodge offers arguably the best family friendly Big Five safari in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. Innovative, stylish and intimate, Ecca Lodge has just six expansive suites with wraparound decks, complete with private plunge pools and outdoor showers, with sweeping views of the bushveld and valley beyond.
Kwandwe Ecca Lodge’s six private suites, which can be fenced for children, are airy and open with flowing interiors that extend outwards to the wilderness. Three of the suites are specifically dedicated to families, accommodating two adults and two children under 16 years and come with their own private safari vehicle and guide.
The décor throughout out Ecca Lodge is modern and bold with vibrant colours and funky design touches. The main guest areas comprise a spacious sitting room with fireplace, dining room and bar area, and a viewing deck with a gorgeous rim-flow lap pool. Delicious fresh farm cuisine is prepared in the open-plan kitchen and an interpretive library provides hours of entertainment for children of all ages.
Kwandwe Private Game Reserve stretches 42 km along the banks of the Great Fish River, a vast untamed landscape of shale cliffs, meandering valleys and wildlife-rich hillsides. One of the Eastern Cape’s finest conservation stories, thousands of animals, including the ‘Big Five’ (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo), have been reintroduced to roam the reserve, which is also a haven for endangered animals and birds and numerous programmes to support them.
If you can drag yourself away from your beautiful suite, daily lodge excursions include game-drives in open 4×4 vehicles, guided walking safaris, fishing and rhino tracking. For children, you’ll be amazed at the interactive and creative activities designed by the Kwandwe team. These include kite building, scavenger hunts, pizza making with specially designed ‘Chefs in Training’ aprons and toques, eco-educational board games (learning about recycling and the how to care for our planet in a fun way) and African bedtime stories.
