Limalimo Lodge is a boutique 12 room lodge in Ethiopia’s stunning Simien Mountains National Park. Guests are able to explore the unique flora and fauna of the Simiens and visit local communities, or simply relax in the comfort of the lodge and its grounds.

Limalimo Lodge’s aim is to promote sustainable tourism in the Simien Mountains National Park, demonstrating how responsible tourism can support conservation and sustainability in a unique and precious environment.

Working closely with the Limalimo community to ensure that they will benefit from the lodge, the majority of the staff at the lodge are from the community, food for the kitchen is locally produced and the community are involved in guest activities and the lodge itself was constructed by members of the Limalimo community.

Ethiopia’s Simien Mountains National Park is home to a wide range of flora and fauna including many endemic species. The lodge has an ongoing partnership with African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and together they are developing a conservation fund – every guest pays a $10 per night conservation fee – which is invested in conservation activities in and around the National Park including community engagement work and much needed infrastructure improvements in the region. The fee also help support the Adisge Primary School, which AWF is rebuilding for the local community as part of its Classroom Africa programme.

Enjoy the splendor of the Simiens whilst trekking across the high plateaus, up its peaks or along the riverbeds of the lowlands. Treks in the Simien Mountains range from half-day in the Limalimo area to 10-day+ adventures further into the National Park. The lodge is inside the park boundaries, and an eight hour trek to Buit Ras camp, from where guests can continue to campsites further in the park.

The Simien Mountains National Park has both highland and lowland habitats providing a wide range of birding opportunities. You will be accompanied by the ldoges guides with excellent knowledge of the local birdlife. The best time of year for bird watching is between October and December.

Guests are very welcome to visit Limalimo village situated next to the lodge. Community visits will allow you to experience aspects of daily life in a rural Ethiopian village such as the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, injera making and other traditional cooking, beer making, farming, guided market visits and beekeeping. Through such visits we aim to closely involve the local community in Limalimo Lodge so that they can realise benefits directly from Limalimo Lodge and its guests.

Washing and massaging the feet and calves of visitors who have traveled long distances is an ancient Ethiopian tradition. Guests can experience this tradition and enjoy a relaxing massage after a trek through the Simiens or a long journey to reach the lodge, whilst looking out over the Simien Mountains.

Early morning yoga sessions will be led by Julia Jeans, our general manager. They will take place in one of the lodge’s quiet outdoor spaces.
