Mvuu Lodge

Mvuu Lodge nestles discreetly on the banks of a lagoon just off the Shire River on the western boundary of the wildlife-rich Liwonde National Park in Malawi.

Mvuu Lodge overlooks a tranquil lagoon just off the Shire River in Malawi with the main lounge area set high above the water in an area of captivating variety and beauty. Mvuu means “hippo” in Tonga and the name epitomises the large numbers of pods of these water-loving mammals that float in the river. In this lush and fertile area, an excellent diversity of animals can be seen.

Accommodation comprises eight tents, one of which is a romantic honeymoon suite. Each tent has en-suite bathroom facilities and its own deck built to look over the water’s edge. Lodge facilities include a dining room, pub, lounge area and a swimming pool. The new star beds are located 4kms north of the lodge and overlook the floodplains, providing excellent views and a memorable night under the stars.

Key activities at Mvuu lodge include boat safaris, guided walks, birding, and traditional game drives by day and night. Additional activities include game drives through the ESOM rhino sanctuary and trips to nearby villages and Nanthomba School. Again on request, guests can also visit one of our resident conservation projects to experience life as a wildlife researcher.
