Thonga Beach Lodge

Thonga Beach Lodge is set above a secluded bay and nestled into the indigenous coastal dune forest of the KwaZulu Natal’s Maputuland coast. This rustic luxury lodge is the ideal place to discover one of South Africa’s last unspoilt wilderness beaches.

Thonga Beach Lodge features 12 thatched suites, which blend seamlessly into the untouched natural surroundings. With either forest or ocean views, the décor throughout is Robinson Crusoe-chic that is both simple and eco-friendly. The Deluxe Ocean View rooms benefit from a wooden deck with a plunge pool, and the Family Rooms also have an additional en-suite bedroom, ideal for families with children. The suites are elevated on stilts and thoughtfully positioned to afford maximum privacy & minimal environmental impact.

The casual main areas are shaded by a canopy of ancient milkwood trees and excellent cuisine is enjoyed al fresco on the dining deck or beach deck overlooking the sea. Cool off in the sparkling swimming pool, unwind on the beach deck with its exquisite sea panoramas and salty breezes or pamper yourself with a treatment at the lodge’s forest spa.

Thonga Beach Lodge is a magical place of coastal forests, grasslands, bush, shimmering lakes and exquisite sandy beaches. Its crystal clear, warm waters offer South Africa’s best snorkelling and excellent off-shore SCUBA diving, as well as excellent birding opportunities. Turtle tracking is available in the summer months from November to February, plus guided forest walks, boat trips in search of dolphins and whales, and sundowner excursions to Lake Sibaya with opportunities to see hippos and crocodiles plus a myriad of birds.
