Tuningi Safari Lodge
Tuningi Safari Lodge is a family-friendly lodge located in the heart of the Madikwe Game Reserve, a malaria-free big five reserve within easy reach of Johannesburg. With endless views over pristine bushveld, best appreciated from the wrap-around decks, this property is both intimate and tranquil.
Situated in the western side of the 75,000 hectare Madikwe Game Reserve, Tuningi Safari Lodge gets its name from a giant fig tree which sits at the heart of the lodge. The main thatched building offers beautiful indoor and outdoor sitting areas, a spacious dining room and a magnificent rim flow pool overlooking a busy waterhole. Wildlife sightings here are often phenomenal.
Only sixteen guests can be accommodated in camp at any one time within four Luxury Suites and two Family Suites. Guestrooms are decorated in an African-chic style with cosy fire places, alfresco rock showers, over-sized bath tubs and private decks with vistas over pristine wilderness. The Luxury Suites can be reconfigured to triples for parents sharing with a small child and the Family Suites have two en-suite bedrooms, joined by a dining area, kitchenette and a living room.
After a morning on game drive, guests are treated to a hearty brunch, whilst lunch is enjoyed under the giant Fig Tree, where guests can relax and revel in the animals joining them at the waterhole. As night sets in, lanterns and candles are lit and the mood goes from bush to baroque. Returning to camp, guests are presented with a bush dinner in the Tuningi’s boma with a blazing log fire to keep them warm.
Each day brings something different, as you explore the endless fascination of Africa’s wildlife in an open Land Cruiser, or get up close with an interactive nature walk. Tuningi prides itself on its fantastic, educational kids programme. Catering for all ages, the in-camp staff of professional nannies and guides tailor activities to the younger guests to ensure they have a memorable first experience in the bush.
