United Arab Emirates
A destination of unparalleled diversity with a variety of exciting attractions to discover, the UAE is an ideal setting for cultural and active pursuits.
From the staggering heights of Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa to the mesmerising sands of Abu Dhabi’s Liwa desert, the UAE evokes images of astounding architectural landmarks as well as offering authentically Arabian experiences.
Jumeirah Beach tops the list for a luxury beach holiday, boasting magnificent hotels, sprawling through manicured gardens which lead to a glorious beach overlooking the Arabian Gulf and impressive Palm Island. Here families luxuriate in the convenience of on-site, elaborate and imaginative children’s clubs, extravagant Spas and all manner of land and water sports.
Downtown Dubai enjoys the glitz and glamour for which Dubai is so famed. All myriad of stylish restaurants and hotel bars compete to be the week’s most popular venue with the bright and beautiful of the city. Home to Dubai Mall and the famous Dubai Fountain, Las Vegas has been transported to The Middle East.
Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, is becoming increasingly popular with travellers. Dubai’s wealthier big brother hosts the Grand Prix and a rapidly expanding wealth of modern attractions in addition to the historical Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, forts and archaeological sites. With a plethora of islands, untouched beaches and wildlife sanctuaries offer an alternative experience to the modern city.
The desert, covering a vast majority of the Emirates, provides a stark contrast to the futuristic cities found on the coast. Endless dunes stretch for miles, peaking in perfect spots for sundowners, after which a glorious carpet of stars fill the sky as if on order as the back drop for a magical evening dinner.

When to go
The climate in the United Arab Emirates is sub-tropical and arid.
During summer (April to September) the weather is both extremely hot (around 50 degrees) and humid and so the best times to visit are between October and November and then February to March when the tempratures average in the mid-twenties and the humidity is under control. The Christmas and New Year periods are also good but due to the popularity of expats wanting to get away hotels are subsequently more busy.
Rainfall is infrequent and usually occurs between November and March, with an average annual rainfall of 152mm (6 in.). There can be occasional sandstorms from the desert and some winter mornings bring fog, although this usually dissipates fairly quickly.

Abu Dhabi
Meaning ‘Father of the Gazelle’ in Arabic, Abu Dhabi was founded when a young antelope led a wandering tribe to fresh water, on an island with no more than 300 palm (‘barasti’) huts, a few coral buildings and the Ruler’s fort. This simple island settlement has since been transformed into the modern, cosmopolitan city of Abu Dhabi and the high-rise capital of the United Arab Emirates.
Year-round sunshine, pristine beaches, spectacular sand dunes and pulsating cosmopolitan lifestyle await every guest. Characterised by its signature Corniche, which fronts the amazing turquoise waters of the Arabian Gulf, you can stroll, cycle, or drive to the tip where the majestic Emirates Palace, one of the world’s most opulent hotels, sits on 1.3 kilometres of pristine beach.
Visit the awe-inspiring Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, one of the world’s largest or take the state-of-the-art highway to the new destinations of Saadiyat and Yas Islands, home to the Zayed National Museum and the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
Further afield, to the east, there’s the ‘Oasis City’ of Al Ain, lying near the Oman border. This tranquil city, Abu Dhabi’s heritage heartland, lies under the shadow of Jebel Hafeet, the emirate’s tallest peak at 1,340 metres. In the western region, Al Gharbia, you can find unspoilt beaches and some of the best desertscapes around. You can visit Mirfa and see the quaint fishing harbour, or relax insimply breathtaking dunes of the Rub Al Khali (Empty Quarter).
