In the Footsteps of Tusk
S.W.A.P | Safaris With A Purpose
Since inception in 1990, Tusks reputation for identifying and supporting an impressive and wide range of conservation initiatives with an incredibly successful track record throughout Africa, is well known and respected.
The foundations of Tusk were laid when Charlie Mayhew, Founder of Tusk, led a 7-month expedition across the Sahara, through the Congo, into Eastern and finally Southern Africa, concluding in Cape Town. Throughout the expedition the group undertook a series of conservation and community projects, filmed for a Channel 4 documentary. This, in essence, sparked the beginning of Tusk.
We have embraced this sense of expedition and created a collection of inspirational journeys, taking you “In the Footsteps of Tusk”.
Where access is possible to tourism, these itineraries take you to areas where Tusk supports leading and emerging conservationists across Africa, bringing the variety of challenges being faced to life.
Whilst on these journeys, you can gain a first-hand insight as to where and how your tourism and Tusk dollar is spent. From well-established projects benefitting from long term funding through to grassroot conservation initiatives just getting started. We hope these trips will inspire and bring to life the benefit Tusk and tourism has across the African continent.
For this reason, the importance of Tusk will only increase and is why we are proud to be a committed Partner.
*Please note: these itineraries provide a flavour of what is possible. All our trips are handcrafted, together, with our clients to ensure a seamlessly personalised experience. No journey is ever the same.

Remote, vast, and lesser known than it’s neighbours, Namibia is a country that takes you further off the grid than you thought possible. Towering terra cotta sand dunes, coastal deserts, Etosha National Park with desert adapted wildlife and a specialist area where Tusk supported project Save the Rhino Namibia, are leading the way in conserving the critically endangered black rhino.
In the Footsteps of Tusk – Zambia
Zambia’s rich wildlife resides within some of the most pristine National Parks in Africa. It’s natural boundaries of meandering rivers and steep escarpments provide an exceptionally beautiful, unspoilt and seasonal safari – as safari was intended. Behind the scenes, there are two Tusk supported projects that work tirelessly to protect the resident wildlife, communities and safeguard the vast wilderness areas.
