Half Term not Half Time
Our top picks to make the most of your February family escape
- 10th October 2019
From Mexico to The Maldives, we all need a little winter warmer to keep us going ’til spring. Here, we’ve picked some of our favourite family friendly holidays, perfect for your half term escape from the murky month of February.
Not always the first destination on the radar if, prior to family life, you were used to exploring the wilds of Africa but don’t disregard Dubai for that family escape. A holiday for you is one where the children are entertained so you don’t need to worry about them being bored and can get on with reading that book, before heading out to desert together for a little dune bashing and camel cuddling. Myriad of child friendly hotels adorn the ever increasing coastline of this glitzy Emirate, coupled with some of the best water parks on the planet, world class shopping and every dining option conceivable. Dubai is a neatly tied up package of fun for an easy break with your brood.
Picture perfect beaches, palm trees gently swaying in the breeze, cocktail in hand and your youngsters fully ensconced in the stunning facilities of a kids or teens club. Warm, shallow and calm waters make The Maldives the perfect destination for our smallest people to discover the sea for the first time, while Maldivian hosts look after your children so well, they need to be peeled from them at the end of the day. Teenagers dive head first into a wide range of water sports leaving you free to join in or lay back and relax.
Indulge the wildlife enthusiasts in your team and embark on your first family safari together. Sharing the most special of memories to last a life time. Far from early starts and fidgety bottoms on game drives, a number of beautiful lodges have programs specially designed for youngsters to enable them to engage with and understand the local environment and culture. Be ready for tales of critters and giants of the African plains at bed time, assuming they don’t fall asleep immediately, exhausted from a day packed full of inspiration.
Nepal may not be top of your list for a family holiday but if walking is your thing a trip to this fascinating country might just be right up your street – or mountain… Whilst not necessarily geared up for the tiniest members of the family, if your youngsters are active and used to getting outside, away from the screen and trying new foods, Nepal has plenty to offer with lots of walks at lower elevations. Coupled with a day in frenetic Kathmandu contrasting with the traditional villages you’ll stop at en-route and awe inspiring views; just think of the stories they’ll have to tell when they get back to school.
There’s a lot more to Mexico than meets the eye, look beyond Cancun and you’ll soon discover a magnificent wealth of historical sites and local culture, ready and waiting to assault your senses. Indulge your inner Indiana Jones, exploring ancient Mayan ruins, meander down stream through the floating markets of Xochimilco and unwind on Mexico’s splendid Caribbean Coast.
