Run Wild at Home for Tusk 2021
Take On The World’s Wildest Virtual Challenge
- 11th June 2020
The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is home to Tusk‘s annual Safari Marathon and each year supporters from all over the world come to run alongside some of Africa’s most iconic species such as elephant, rhino, giraffe, zebra and lion! This year we are asking you to run the Virtual Lewa Safari Marathon.
Lewa, along with the rest of the African continent, faces a challenge that is unprecedented. COVID19 is having a devastating economic impact; threatening both livelihoods and the future of Kenya’s irreplaceable natural heritage.
The pandemic means this year’s marathon is cancelled, but it’s vital we protect Tusk’s frontline conservation, education and community projects in Kenya, so the world’s wildest challenge is going “virtual”. We’re asking you to run (or walk) either 5km, 10km, 21km or even 42km around your garden, streets, local park, beach or on a treadmill in support of those hit by the enormous crisis in Kenya.
This isn’t a race; there isn’t an entry fee; there’s no stop watch, All we ask is that you make a voluntary donation to Tusk.
“As the world comes together to tackle the impact of the coronavirus, please join me by participating in the Virtual Lewa Safari Marathon. I am very pleased to back Lewa and Tusk in their efforts to raise the much needed funds to protect Kenya’s wildlife and provide vital support for communities and schools across my country in this time of crisis.”
– Eliud Kipchoge EGH, Marathon World Record Holder and Lewa Ambassador
As part of this challenge, a team of wildlife rangers and Tusk Director of Programmes, Sarah Watson will run the half marathon route at Lewa. These rangers represent the extraordinary frontline men and women who risk their lives day and night to protect Africa’s wildlife, and they will be joined by a special group of Kenyan elite athletes – watch out for more news on this.
You will be able to view online and see how they do on Saturday 27th June as they run through one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife conservancies.
